When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won’t be the victim of needless suffering.<br /> <br />Don’t Make Assumptions: Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness, and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.<br /> <br />Always Do Your Best: Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. We determine when to fly, how far and for how long. We decide the destination, the altitude and the engine speed.<br /><br />We are the one in charge. Can you imagine a pilot sitting in the pilot seat asking the crew –<br /><br />“Where to today?” or “What do you think we should do?”<br /><br />This is our life — so take charge of it.<br /><br />But beware, we can burn the fuel too quickly by wasting it with worry, fear, doubt and distraction.<br /><br />There is no one way to get to where we want to go. There are no shoulds. But we do need forward movement, We have to leave the ground to get to our destination.<br /><br />Make a decision, set a goal, determine our desires. Then move forward as our intuition reveals the next step.<br /><br />Take time each day to sit in meditation to receive guidance, then set a flight plan, but be ready to adjust for the wind currents and weather of the emotions. Un-chock the wheels and rev the engines by getting excited, happy, and enthusiastic.<br /><br />Once we have received the insights, and charted the course, we are ready to go. We may have to refuel our body with nutrition, meditation and exercise. We will need to refuel our mind with meditation, affirmations and contemplation.<br /><br />Remember to enjoy the journey – we have the controls – we are in the pilot’s seat. There are fair skies ahead. This is a good time to fly.<br /><br />Don’t worry about our past. Don’t worry about our future. Just be in the now – be aware today and relish all life offers us. Receive, feel, explore and offer joy and love each mile.<br /><br />Know that as we take off, we are supported by unseen forces. Now the research is telling us the "why" and more importantly "what" can be done to assist women in recovery.<br />Women start using for different reasons, get addicted differently, progress faster, recovery differently and relapse for different issues. Due to shame and stigma, women may be more likely to drink/take pills when alone and hide it from others. Some women have their home as their bar and may have three martini play dates with their friends and their children.<br />Those with stressful careers may use to keep up the image that they can raise three kids, have a high power job and still keep up! With the stimulant drugs some women start using to lose weight. While many women are high functioning and may be able to keep up the appearance of being fine they are unraveling on the inside.<br />Physiologically women metabolize alcohol and drugs differently then men. Physically one drink for a woman has twice the impact physiologically on a woman that it does on a man. That's not just about getting drunk, that's impact to the organs, to the brain. It's serious stuff!<br />Mixing types of drugs makes it even more damaging. When mixing chemicals one and one is not necessarily two. Women also tend to have more access to prescribers of medications which can make it even more dangerous.<br />Yes, there is physical damage but it may pale in comparison to the emotional  damage done by addiction. When a woman is addicted it can impact the entire family system - since women are generally the central organising factors in their network (caregiver to aging parent, parent to children, caregiver of older partner.).<br />Women are complicated! In addition a female's distinctive physiology, mental health issues, hormonal differences, spiritual concerns and as well as life circumstances may affect their experience in addiction and recovery.
